My name is Jacqui and I have been Teaching Immersion English in Taiwan for over 3 years. As well as teaching I have travelled through various Asian countries - Vietnam and Thailand, and I have now settled in Australia.

 Position: Kindergarten Teacher/ Kindergarten Lead Teacher


Kindergarten Teacher
Teaching full curriculum immersion English to children aged 3-6 years old.
Class size from 18-20 students. Teaching hours: 8:30am – 12:00pm and 1:50pm – 5:00pm. (Monday to Friday)

Responsibilities included:
 ·        Teaching a full curriculum of Maths, English, Phonics, PE, Art, Health and Hygiene , Social Studies and Science to Kindergarten Students.
·        Working out lesson plans each week, finding appropriate resources and teaching materials such as worksheets, flashcards, books and songs.
·        Compile monthly webs detailing the months work over each week.
·        Evaluating students every two months to monitor progress.
·        Writing monthly observations on each student and communicating this information with parents.
·        Planning activity days and events such as graduation concerts, christmas concerts, mothers day, sports days and escorting students on field trips.


 Kindergarten Lead Teacher ( Commenced March 2005)
 Responsible for overseeing the curriculum development and management of the Kindergarten resources, training and orientation of the 10 Kindergarten classes and their Teachers. The kindergarten had at most 10 Foreign ESL teachers, teaching at most 180 students.


 Responsibilities included:
 

  • Being an Advisor for the Kindergarten Department of the school.
  • Assist in interviewing and recruiting new ESL teachers.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new and exisiting teachers.
  • Writing up procedures and protocols regarding class conduct, discipline, and teaching.
  • As part of the management team, assisting in planning activity days, teaching materials, and curriculum development and organisation.
  • Checking the lesson plans and monthly webs of all the Kindergarten Teachers, to ensure that the correct resources, skills and concepts are covered for each month.
  • Delegate responsibilities regarding the management of the Kindergarten resources to other teachers.
  • Liaise and communicate all events regarding the Kindergarten in weekly management meetings.

The three years I have worked in Noble American Children’s School have been the most challenging but rewarding years of my life. Having to adapt to a new culture, language barriers and educating young children with no or very little English skills, and working under  very different work ethics, has brought about  a new appreciation for learning new skills and setting high goals in my working environment.

 Responsibilities Included:
 

  • Answering calls from BT and other telecom companies customers, requiring number information in the UK and Ireland.
  • Dealing with customer complaints.
  • Meeting call time targets and customer service standards.
  • Promoting a good company image by professional conduct.
  • Learning new computers skills and adapting to new programs and changes in the British Telecom computer system.
  • Accurate and timely typing skills suited to data entry requirements.
  • Good geographical knowledge of the areas covered.
  • Good communication skills, with clear pronunciation.
  • Working flexible hours in the 24 hours Directory assistance centre.

 I started working in this department of BT while I was still a University student working part time hours. After University they offered me a full time contract.

  • Dealing with customer complaints.
  • Communicating with telephone operators in other countries.
  • Meeting monthly evaluation standards.

Responsibilities included:

  • Cashing up the evenings takings.
  • Training and assisting new staff.
  • Rotating stock, cellar maintenance.
  • Working flexible, late hours and University holidays.
  • Help plan and carry out special events, concerts, and theme evenings.

  • Assisting unit leaders in running a Brownie Guide unit for girls aged between 7 and 10 years old.
  • Helped train the Brownies in areas of badge work i.e. Road safety rules, orienteering, and first aid.
  • Assisted in the planning and organisation of weekend pack holidays.
  • Monitored attendance, and group activities.
  • Helped to promote the Girl Guide Association.
  • Helped organise charity events.
